Re: Yugo-Prog 50th Anniversary Thread

Although progreesive blues-rock songs were rare in the 70s Prog, it could be detected. Smak [in serbo-croatian language, "Smak" means "the end of the World"] were recorded  two really great "proggy" blues-rock songs; these two songs became so popular in former Yugoslavia that both had have to become a part of the band' standard repertoire at concerts.

Šumadijski blues ( Šumadija is a pleasant central part of Serbia from where the band came on the scene in the mid-seventies ), 1976

(transl.)

Šumadija Blues

Oh, how are you my darling people
one room, another world
I am alone, with no one else
Watching someone else's rotten flowers

I would give away all of my life
For just to go over an old fence

I have dreamed yellow quince
My land, my green fields
I have seen a flash of lightning
dear and far away homeland

Someone came to me and said
"Hello stranger, have a nice night"
"You have a fancy car, stranger
Surely, you are happy man"
But I have cried, said with pain
I would give it away, just for only one of your days

And then the blues began
My dear Šumadija singing about happiness

Šumadijski blues, extended live version & footage from Smak's concert in New York, in 1976, with amazing electric piano / Hammond organ solo and beautiful footage of 1976 Manhattan:

Blues u parku ("Blues in the Park") 1975

(transl.)

Blues in the Park

A lonely day in paradise
was begging the gray sorrow
With the pain, then without the hope
Without the hope, he is calling everyone

"I'm lonely, again, only me"
A tear and an ember, the green blues of May
Brings the dole
The birds, everyone sings, even he

Bees, a flower in the shadow
He's not alone, he loves people again, a flower
is enough for a little bit, for a little bit of luck
He's not alone

For a little, oh for a little bit
For him to know

Blues u Parku,  live at Sava Centar, Belgrade, 1992

Blues u Parku,  live at Belgrade's Arena, 2012 (I was there among other 20 000 spectators)

Bijelo Dugme ("White Bottom") Playing the Part, 1975

Bijelo Dugme Sanjao sam nocas da te nemam, 1976

transl.

Tonight I dreamt that I don't have you

Tonight I dreamt that I don't have you
that I'm lying awake on beds of snow
and quietly, quietly
some other woman
calls out my name trough the night
bad dream

In my dreams I saw a white lily
black horses and celebrations without song
and quietly without sound
they go away somewhere
some dear people
Where, oh where
bad dream

Hey, night stop
let the dawn break
(let the dawn break)

Time Divlje Guske ("Wild Geese") 1975

transl.

Wild Geese

Through the night and moisture,
Wild geese move to south
and painfully screaming,
I feel like I want to
write a sad story.
As wild geese take
on their white wings
the trails of my soul
my tracks,
And although I do not know the way,
I do not know how to stop myself.

I do not care anymore for passed hours
even not at walk by the hot sun.
It's my day when her eyes are back,
and the night when they go again.

It was wonderful, and I admit it by my heart,
all those moments,
paths, lips and leaves .....
Everything .... Even tears running through the face
and her body as she clutches..

I believe, I wait and pray,
if someone will return all those days,
but it's late, why should I love it
when the leaves of our love fell on us from a tree branch

Time Život u čizmama s visokom petom ("Life In The Boots With High Heels") 1976

transl.

Life In The Boots With High Heels

I've lived together with the music,
it gave me glory, money,
led me to the world.
we both loved
what that life in the boots with high heels gave to us.
Hey ..

And I got the most, which a life can give,
and l was a lover of thousands of women and
I loved them with a sincerity of the Holy, and they loved me
just because I was a star
in the boots with high heels.

I did not know that music was a fight in which
they break their heads cruelly,
in which every one of us has its own battle,
in which even a bad warrior wins a glory.
now a guitar plays to make as much money as possible
today "the best" are those who sell much records
no more artists
We were so good at the time of The Dynamites
when we played honestly and were happy when
we've all sacrificed for the music,
today they are rare that they are still the same
and that they did not sold out cheaply
