Actif depuis le début des années 70 le line-up original de Blackfoot était composé de  Rick Medlocke, Charlie Hargrett, Greg Walker et Jackson Spire .Le quatuor partage une origine commune avec Lynyrd Skynyrd par le biais de Medlocke qui co-écrit 4 chansons et chanteur principal sur 2 pistes de l’album  Skynyrd's First And...Last mais aussi avec un son blues rock caractéristiques de ces musiciens du Sud. Rick Medlocke s’est inspiré de ses origines indiennes et de toute cette tradition pour choisir le nom du groupe.  Depuis sa création, le groupe a connu beaucoup de changements de musiciens mais tout en sachant converser son « son » et  cette touche particulière qu’il a dans le Rock Sudiste.  Le groupe a aussi connu quelques périodes d’inactivité pour mieux recommencer plus tard, avec souvent 1 ou 2 nouveaux musicos.  Aujourd’hui on y retrouve  notre ami MIKE ESTES à la guitare !
