SMOKIN’ JOE KUBEK est né en Pennsylvanie en 1956.     Peu de temps après sa famille déménage au Texas. A l’âge de 14 ans, il fait ses débuts dans les clubs de Dallas. A 17 ans, s’intéressant fortement au blues il forme son premier band. Il accompagne ensuite FREDDIE KING. En 1989, il s’associe avec le chanteur guitariste BNOIS KING dont la voix soul et les influences jazz contrastes avec le Texas Blues. Ensemble ils créeront la première incarnation du KUBEK’S BAND. Se forgeant une solide réputation ils vont élargir leur cercle d’amis et auront souvent l’occasion de jammer avec ALBERT KING, STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN, BB KING, etc,( pas mal ! ).Avec une 15e d’albums derrière lui, SMOKIN’ JOE KUBEK est considéré comme un des tout grands du Blues. Lui et son fidèle complice BNOIS KING ne viennent que  très rarement en Europe

"Personnage aux confins des mondes de Beckett et du cirque traditionnel, Madame Barbiturix, clown de son état, n’assume plus de jouer sempiternellement le rôle qu’on attend d’elle : amuser le monde avec ses pitreries. Elle se place dès lors dans une stratégie de rupture qui la conduit à vouloir réhabiliter l’image souvent bouffonne que l’on véhicule d’elle-même et de ses semblables. Un clown est aussi fait de chair et de sang. Assumant pleinement son humanité, elle nous livrera ses états d’âme, ses doutes, ses peurs, ses indignations et ses enthousiasmes. Larry McCray’s life story is pure Blues folklore.  Born the eighth of nine children, McCray was raised in a one room country shack on the family’s farm in Magnolia Arkansas.  He moved north to Michigan at an early age, and spent more than a decade working the General Motors assembly line while moonlighting as a musician.  The success of his 1990 debut, Ambition, convinced him to turn to playing Blues full time.

Today, after 6 cd’s and crisscrossing the country to get the word out, the 50 year old McCray is one of the hottest acts on the festival circuit!  Larry McCray remains one of a handful of talented Blues performers leading the genre across boundaries and into the new century.  While McCray carries the tradition of the Blues as a music form, he fuses it with contemporary funk and rock rhythms.  And he tops it off with vocals delivered in a big baritone and an incisive guitar style that bears restraint but is always threatening to go over the top
