En 1979, elle suivra des cours au G.I.T. (Guitar Institute of Technology) où elle fait la rencontre de Steve Lynch qui la branche sur le tapping à tel point qu'elle s'y entraînera sans relâche. Diplôme en poche, elle s'astreint à une pratique effrénée et joint les deux bouts en donnant des cours le jour, en jouant avec différents groupes le soir. Tout s'accélère en 1987. Choisie parmi une centaine de guitaristes, elle est invitée à jouer pour Michael Jackson sur la tournée mondiale "Bad". Elle rempilera pour les "Dangerous" et "History Tour". Cette période marque aussi le lancement de sa carrière solo. Invitée ensuite par Jeff Beck, elle le suit sur ses tournées mondiales et l'inspire sur ses derniers albums, notamment Who Else!.
