The second LEB I SOL album repeats the formula from the debut. The same line-up, the same instrumentation, the same producer (J.Bocek) and similar ratio between instrumentals and songs with lyrics (one less in this case ). Preconditions for the "second album trap"? No, this time we are talking about genuine masterpiece of ex-Yugo fusion! Production is better, all instruments sound better, compositions are better, and all musicians expressed their ideas more bravely. Stefanovski is not much of a vocalist - indeed, LEB I SOL are first and foremost the instrumentalists - the vocals are often moved to the second front, much like Andy Latimer did with CAMEL. But even his rare voice is better here on the second album. Side A of the original vinyl (first 4 tracks) are simply stunning: "Akupunktura", "Kako ti drago", a great crescendo of another traditional "Aber dojde Donke" and vocal hit "Talasna duzina" are worth the price alone. But the rest must not be overlooked: the most furious guitar solo I ever heard in "Marija" and a closing short acoustic song "Bonus" which was to become a sort of LEB I SOL anthem during their live performances when it was usually pretty extended. All members of the team are giving their best, especially Dimusevski's piano and synths shine. LEB I SOL music was always more melodic and skillfully played than avant-garde or explorative, so if you are looking for a tasty and technically superb rework of traditional Macedonian folk melodies with odd time signatures done in a vein of Allan Holdsworth playing guitar with RETURN TO FOREVER, search no more! It is available on a "2LP on1CD" reissue coupled with "Leb i sol" (T.Pics/PGP RTS, CD 2036, 2000) so you better go and get it!

After two successfull albums LEB I SOL decided not to repeat the formula but to go into a deeper exploration of jazz.
For the third album they almost abandoned the lyrics and invited a saxophone guest for two tracks. Vocals are present but except "Lenja pesma", an excellent even semi-commercial hit at the time, they were utilized as an instrument. Dimusevski is more active than ever with his electric piano and plethora of synths, Stefanovski's guitar technique is brought to perfect here, while rhythm section of Tavitijan and Arsovski is impeccable as always. Macedonian folk is less present in favour of more "avant-garde" approach in a manner of jazz improvistions, so "Rucni rad" is not very accessible on the first listen.

Production of Josip Bocek is finally top notch for the time, the whole album carries the balanced sound of all instruments, perfectly arranged so you could get a sense of the band playing as a single body. Solos are rare but very effective and functional.

All 7 tracks are perfect but obvious favorites would be "Lenja pesma" (lyrics as always by Goran Stefanovski, Vlatko's brother, who is a renowned Macedonian playright), Arsovski's title track "Rucni rad" with some beautiful fretless bass melody line and Stefanovski's "Kumova slama", one of the most memorable instrumentals of the former Yugo music scene, beautiful melody with emotional guitar solo weeping. However there is present a sort of optimistic, positive feeling in this composition which sometimes reminds me of the similar style found in say "Jessica" by ALLMAN BROTHERS. This is a true gem of ex-Yugo prog and probably the best fusion album of the era just before the coming of New Wave age.

What an excellent debut from this Yugoslavian band that was released back in the latter half of the seventies. I was reminded of SMAK and SYNKOPY at times with their steller instrumental work and enjoyable vocal tracks.
"Devetka" gets things started with laid back guitar and piano before the clavinet arrives. This is all so inventive and it sounds really good too. I like the electric piano and bass around 2 1/2 minutes as well. "Pod Vodom" is more uptempo and the electric piano is fantastic. Guitar and piano take turns leading the way. "Utrinska Tema" features vocals for the first time. This is a relaxed song with piano, drums and vocals leading. The bass becomes prominant later on.

"Kokoska" opens with a good drum show then the guitar and bass come in after a minute then keyboards. Clavinet and guitar follow. "Nisam Tvon" is mellow with vocals, piano and drums. It gets fuller as contrasts continue. "U Senci" features some killer guitar a minute in then it settles right down before 2 minutes. It kicks back in late. "Cudo Za Tri Dana" opens with acoustic guitar and reserved vocals.Synths wash in then it kicks in to a fuller sound at 2 minutes. "Pesma O Sonji H..." is laid back with piano. Flute comes and goes. It picks up 3 1/2 minutes in but not for long. Not a fan of this one. "Damar" becomes uptempo and synths wash in after 3 minutes.

A solid 4 stars and a worthy addition to any collection. A very talented band.

One of the best groups from Yugoslavia! Because of the heavy guitar and flute they are often compared to SOLARIS but they started erlier than this Hungarian band and maybe they influenced them. Both of their albums were reissued on CD. This is the second one and completely instrumental.
- "U vreci za spavanje" is a peaceful floydian track with Mellotron (or string synth?) and a nice flute theme.

- "Senke proslosti" has heavy metal riffs in odd time signature (ethnic influence). Electric guitar is shredding and also some analog synth. In the middle of the track there is an unexpected calmer part.

- "Na putu ka sebi" also starts similar as previous track and then slows down.

- "Horde mira" (bonus track) starts with a classically influenced symphonic part and continues with fast guitar solos.

- "Price o Leni" reminds me a little of OZRIC TENTACLES and IGRA STAKLENIH PERLI (another Yugoslavian group) because of the eastern grooves.

- "Dolina leptira" is a beautful track with a nice eastern guitar melody, majestic riffs, synth jamming and a piano solo in odd time signature.

- "Izgubljeno nista" (bonus track) is alternating between fast heavy passages and spacey parts like in "Na putu ka sebi"

- "Igra devojcice" is a more classic symphonic track again with trademark riffing and a bluesy harmonica solo in the middle.

TAKO is a very unique symphonic space group. The powerful riffing and guitar soloing is ahead of its time. There could be some similarity with SOLARIS, ELOY and RUSH but TAKO sound different. The sound quality of "U vreci za spavanje" is not the best but the music is perfect. Excellent listening experience!

Tako U vreci za spavanje ("In A Sleeping Bag") 1980, full album
